My Bird Series is an ongoing project that documents and memorializes dead birds that I find in my daily life. The graphite bird drawings are quite large, are based on the smaller metalpoint studies, and use the larger scale to throw the viewer’s perception of the creature, alluding to its dinosaur predecessors. The delicacy and lighter tones of the small metalpoint drawings has influenced the tonal approach to the large graphite drawings, and I have approached the large birds with a lighter tonal key and a more detailed linear approach than my previous work.
